Stoptober is a massively successful NHS campaign which was set in place to encourage as many of the UK’s 10 million smokers to give up. The idea behind Stoptober came from research which suggested that those who were able to give up for one month were far more likely to remain a non-smoker than those who stopped for less time.

Last years’ Stoptober was a resounding success with more than 160,000 people successfully stopping smoking for the duration of the month of October. The campaign cost over 5 million pounds last year but that’s small potatoes compared with the NHS’ bill for caring for those member of the public suffering from smoking related conditions.
