So, one of the questions that we get asked frequently looks a little like this.
“How long will my vape last?”
In all fairness, it’s a reasonable question. For a lot of people, knowing how long their devices will last is vital for making sure that they budget correctly or simply have the right parts ordered at the right time. We actively attempt to give people the information they need on this topic, but it’s not as simple as that.
On average, your device will last you a couple of weeks. But the different parts that make up your device, that’s a different story.
Let’s take a look at all of the components that make up a vape device, starting with thecoil. Now, the coil is a core part of your device, but because it comes in a selection of different variants, we’ll need to generalise to give you an answer.
On average, a well-designed coil that sees moderate use will last you 4-7 days. If you don’t smoke so much during the day because of your employment, that lifespan will be a little longer. If you smoke all the time, then understandably it will be a little bit shorter. There’s no real time limit on these - they have a finite lifespan which is tied to how much you use the device.
So, how long do vapebatteries last? These are another vital component of your device, but they too will have a finite lifespan.
Batteries work a little differently because they have to be recharged in-between uses. So, your average battery will give you around 300 puffs from a full charge. This equates to maybe a week of solid use before a recharge is needed, which isn’t bad.
Most vaping professionals will recommend that you replace a battery every year, regardless of how much it has been used. The overall effectiveness of these batteries will decrease over time, so after a year, they’re usually nowhere near as effective as when they were new.
Ah, now we’re into the interesting stuff. You see, this is something that we can solve quite easily thanks to some basic mathematics.
Your average 500mg vape pen will have roughly 150 seconds of inhalation available. So, the length of time that the pen will last you for would depend quite a bit on how long you took to inhale each time. If you were someone who took only one second of puff each time, then you’re going to get 150 puffs. If you take more, then you’re going to get less.
The mathematics can obviously be scaled up and down to suit the situation, but the basic principle is that the longer you take for each inhalation, the less inhalation time you have left, so the shorter the length of time that you will actually have the device operable for.
So, let’s get down to the truth of the matter. How long do these devices actually last on average?
Like we said, the average time for a vaping device can definitely vary from one situation to the next. It’s all dependent on so many different factors which make it a challenge to try and work out.
With that being said, however, there is a fair amount of evidence to suggest that the average lifespan of a vaping device as a collective set of pieces is around about six months. If we consider replacing each smaller piece, like for example the coils and batteries, as being maintenance on the device, we have an average lifespan that exists independently of that.
Statistically speaking, your device will last you around 6 to 7 months before you have to replace all of the components. Once you’ve done that, it’s a completely different device with a fresh lifespan. It’s recommended that you replace every component at the same time if you’re starting fresh, to get the maximum lifespan.
In conclusion, the average device will last you around about 6 to 7 months. Obviously, this will depend a lot on the type of products that you use, the length of time that you use your device for each day, and the overall build quality of what you’re using. Things like coils and batteries will need to be replaced fairly regularly, but this is generally counted as just being essential maintenance for the device. Many people will argue that once every part has been replaced at least once, the device has been retired from active service, and something new has taken its place. What you decide will be entirely up to you, but if you do need to replace the device, we have a selection of different components for you to choose from.
